TOESPRAAK: JACO MULDER, LPW GAUTENG WETGEWER

ERFENISMAAND

15 SEPTEMBER 2009

Madam Speaker

When we speak on the motion for heritage month each year, quite an amount of time is spent on the legacy of colonialism, apartheid and inequities of the past.

Taking note of our rich history, we should also take note of what created the climate for any new shared heritage that is in the making at present.

Speaker, Afrikaners het soos baie ander kultuurgroepe ook ‘n bydrae gelewer om Suid-Afrika die sterkste land in Afrika te maak. As gevolg daarvan word President Zuma genooi om die G8 Beraad by te woon.

We should be more responsible in the way that we engage with the rights of minorities in South Africa, as our strength lies within our diversity. It should not be a reason for diversion. Racial cards are too often played for cheap political gain.

The way in which the South African government interpreted and implemented affirmative action for instance, created now inequities amongst all communities. Both cultural and economic.

Speaker, we know that South Africa is currently experiencing an administrative nightmare, in departments and especially in local government.

The inability to provide services and effective administration could derail all efforts to build a save shared future in which all South Africans could feel safe.

Die toekoms van ons gedeelde erfenis is in ons hande.

May our current decisions and actions be responsible ones. Our shared future heritage is at stake. Africa is desperately in need of a success story. South Africa should be that success story.

Dankie Speaker.
