The announcement of the huge salary increase of Mr. Jacob Maroga, the Chief Executive of Eskom, of 26,7% is not only shocking becauses it is the consumer who will be footing the bill. Consumers are being misled to believe that the 31% price increase in power supply is necessary to ensure electricity supplies because it rather appears as if it is required for huge salary increases for the Chief Executive Officer of Eskom.

It is already well known that Maroga is incompetent for his position as he did nothing when he was timeously warned about the impending coal crisis which was to affect Eskom. How is it possible for a CEO who causes a national crisis where the loss had been nearly R50 billion, gets a basic salary increase from R 3,914 million to R 4,96 million. To add insult to injury he also received a bonus of R681 446 in shares.

If the ANC government is really serious about service delivery, the Minister of Public Enterprises, Ms. Barbara Hogan will intervene immediately and not allow the salary increase of Mr. Maroga to take effect and in addition remove Maroga from his position. The consumer is already being taxed heavily and it is unreasonable to expect consumers to continue financing inefficiency and incompetence.

The Freedom Front Plus requests the honourable Minister to fire Mr. Maroga immediately, without giving him a golden handshake, as he is not fir to be a chief executive officer of any public enterprise.
